DIABETES – A National Priority

November 11, 2018 By Health Coach

DIABETES

“Preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes must be a national priority;
as the disease is costly and places people at high risk for severe complications and chronic diseases.”

– American Medical Association.

According to the snapshot provided by the Center for Disease Control, 30.3 million people suffer from diabetes.

  • It’s estimated a whopping 1 out of 3 people are still not diagnosed.
  • Plus, 84.1 million have prediabetes and 9 out of 10 don’t know they have it.
  • The estimated cost for lost work and wages is over $245 billion!

TYPES OF DIABETES

What Can You Do?

Avoid foods with a high glycemic index:

  • Refined Starches
  • Carbohydrates
  • Sugars
  • Restaurant Fast Food

Foods for Diabetics:

  • Fiber is your friend! Raw veggies and ancient grains are a great source!
  • Salads. Make your own Dressing!
  • Steamed Vegetables. Light and easily digestible.
  • Avocado – High in Omega 3’s. Fight Inflammation.
  • Walnuts – Food for the Brain.
  • Fresh Wild Fish – High in Omega 3’s.
  • Beans – High Fiber and Protein

Dr Margaret Ashwell, former science director of the British Nutrition Foundation:
“Keeping your waist circumference to less than half your height can help increase life expectancy for every person in the world.”

Dr. Sears offers these further guidelines:
“A low risk circumference waistline for men is under 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women.
Look for a healthy body mass index to be less than 25.”

Important Ideas About Stress And Health

October 7, 2018 By Health Coach

stress

Since colder weather signals changes to the physical body, it inspired me to write about stress. So often we get involved with life’s events and forget how much day to day stress we accumulate. Stress lowers our immunity, causing us to feel tired and drained.

STRESS

There are several types of stress to address; emotional, physical and chemical. Overall, B vitamins, Salmon Oil, Tre-en-en, Protein Shakes, and Magnesium will reduce the impact of stress. Let’s look at the different approaches to stress.

1. Emotional

Tre-en-en has been found to help with hormonal balance and to improve sleep. Womens’ and Mens’ herbs can reduce symptoms. You might also want to try Neolife’s Mind Enhancement.

Massage, hot tubs and and breathing exercises have also been shown to help reduce stress and associated fatigue.

2. Physical

Physical pain causes stress. You might find improvement through Salmon Oil. Be sure to include B vitamins in your regimen.

Exercise is a fantastic way to release stored up energy, and I advise it whenever possible. Friends of mine find Pilates and Tai Chi to be useful. My personal favorite is an exhilarating hike in the forest.

A healthy lifestyle will allow you to make long term changes. This includes consuming fresh organic produce, dairy and meats.

3. Chemical

Eliminate chemical cleaners from your home.

“A four-year study conducted through the University of Bristol and published in the journal, Thorax, found that children born into families that used specific types of cleaning products frequently, were twice as likely to suffer from wheezing as those whose families used these products occasionally.”    You Decide.

Chemicals in our life cause allergies, can disrupt the gut’s natural flora, and can seriously disrupt cognition. The quickest way to begin the elimination of toxic chemicals from our bodies is through:

Magnesium for Heart Health and Muscle Function

July 30, 2018 By Health Coach

#Didyouknow that magnesium plays a  vital role in over
700 biochemical reactions in the body!

Scientists now estimate that between
50 to 80% of Americans have low magnesium.

Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals found in the body. It is predominantly found within our body’s cells and bones playing an important role in health and nutrition.

Magnesium is essential for more than 700 biochemical reactions in the body. These include the structural development of bone, protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood pressure regulation and blood glucose control. Magnesium is a vital component in nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.

Magnesium plays an important role in lifelong health and vitality. Low levels of magnesium have been associated with a number of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes.

Additionally, magnesium plays a critical part in physical performance.

Adequate magnesium status is of the utmost importance for both competitive and recreational athletes given the role magnesium plays in cellular reactions, releasing energy from carbohydrates and fats, and its important role in muscle contraction during strength training and endurance activity.
