Losing weight wasn’t this hard for your Grandmother!
Back in the 60’s most food was organic by nature. Insidious, manipulated sugar products had yet to be invented. Chemicals had not taken a significant role in our food cycle. Animals were not pumped with antibiotics and growth hormones, forced to switch from natural feeds to GMO grains. Back then, we experienced the natural cycles of local seasonal produce and proper animal husbandry.
In the 50’s and 60’s it was easier to take in all 59 nutrients required in daily life.
“For example, in 1948, a bowl of spinach used to contain about 150 milligrams of iron. But today that same bowl of spinach contains only about 2 milligrams! You’d have to eat 75 bowls of spinach today to get the same mineral content of only 50 years ago.” – Robert G. Allen, “Your Health is in Danger.”
Realigning your food choices allows the body to regain vital nutrients, strengthen its immune and circulatory systems, and decrease the feelings of inflammatory pain. Weight loss becomes a natural byproduct when the body is healthy!

ORGANIC
If you can make one change in your life, it would be to buy organic food. Make everything you put in your mouth count. Accessing bio-available sources of food is the first step on the journey of health and wellness.
Eliminating processed foods and sweetened beverages is the next step. Try to cook as much of your own food as possible, and do it without the help of a microwave.

THE CARB EFFECT
Our western, wheat based diet relies on carbohydrates, but carbohydrates don’t burn as effectively as fat. Given the fact that carbohydrates release more free radicals; we need to take action. This polluted world is filled with free radicals, along with processed foods, preservatives and alcohol. The cells of our body are continually under attack by free radicals. The cumulative effect is known as disease and old age.
Our body produces antioxidants to neutralize the inflammation caused by free radicals. Vitamins C and E will help, if they are from the right sources.
Try to switch many of your carbohydrate sources away from breads, pasta and potatoes to chard, kale, red peppers, broccoli and cauliflower. (Source: Dr. Mercola’s Powerhouse Vegetables).
“Transition your body into primarily burning fat for fuel and radically reduce your risk for most chronic diseases.” – Dr Mercola
-
HIGH FIBER
Daily guidelines suggest 20 to 30 grams of high quality fiber a day. Look to increase your intake to 50 or 60 grams of fiber. Processed food will not provide the fiber you’re looking for. Organic vegetables and nuts provide both soluble and insoluble fiber, feeding the micro-organisms in your gut. Genetically modified, processed foods destroy these same micro-organisms.

WATER CONSUMPTION
Did you know the effects of dehydration mimic feelings of hunger? Try to make water your main beverage, not juices or sports drinks. Drinking 2 cups of water, a half hour before a meal, will help you lose weight.
Brenda Davy, a nutrition researcher at Virginia Tech found, “…that older adults who drank two cups of water half an hour before breakfast, ate about 75 fewer calories – or, 13 percent less – than a comparable group who hadn’t drunk water before the meal.”

INTERMITTENT FASTING
Fasting has a number of health benefits including longevity. In the West, we eat too frequently, causing the body to become overwhelmed. Intermittent fasting provides many fasting benefits without the rigorous discipline.
“Intermittent fasting can be as easy as skipping breakfast, making lunch your first meal, and having your dinner as early as 7:00 in the evening.” – Dr. Mercola
This would give your body 16 hours to clean out built up sugars and shift to fat burning mode.
